Motion Sensor is constantly working behind the scenes in order to determine the directional pickup of the microphones on your hearing aids.
Phonak Paradise has 4 microphones to work with. (narrow directional beam technology)

When you are moving sensors tell the hearing aid to start picking up sounds around you.
So if you are walking next to someone you can hear them and understand them without looking at them.

On a busy street, because there is so much background noise your hearing aids would (normally) go into a directional microphone mode, picking up sounds primarily in front of you.
This will reduce your awareness of sounds around you.

Motion sensors can tell your hearing aids that you're on the move, so they keep the microphones open and active so you have better situational awareness.
You do not have to manually adjust the programming of your hearing aid because the motion sensors do it for you.

Motion Sensor allows you to localise sounds better as well. Localisation is your brains ability to identify which direction sound is coming from. (requires time and intensity differences of sound between your ears for it to function properly.)
So allowing your hearing aids to know you are on the move allows the hearing aids to pick up the differences of intensity between your ears to allow you to have better localisation ability.

A University of Toronto study found nearly 3/4 of the test subjects preferred their ability to understand speech with motion sensors active.
The study also indicated they preferred the localisation benefits by being able to identify where sounds were coming from.
